Smartmicro traffic sensors feature the most advanced 3D object tracking Radar technology available today. Products for intersection applications (stop bar and advance detection), road traffic management applications (counting and classification) and enforcement applications (speed and red light) are available.
Smartmicro is supplying complete traffic solutions for end customers as well as sensors for OEM integration to numerous customers worldwide - many thousands of Radars being already deployed. With more than six years of experience in the traffic sector, leading edge Radar technology and a constantly growing product portfolio Smartmicro is the perfect partner for traffic system providers and system integrators.

Smartmicro Radar sensors are projecting a low power microwave beam on the road and capture all objects inside the field of view. The patented Radar measurement principles allow real time direct measurement of range, speed and azimuth angle of all reflectors simultaneously even in complex situations. Detection happens many times per second, the data are tracked over time. As a result all objects in the field of view will be reliably detected and reported with excellent precision for position, speed vector and lane index.
Other than traditional side firing sensors with narrow beams, the innovative forward looking wide beam operation has many advantages. Vehicles are inside the field of view for a much longer time, their position and speed vector can be measured with much higher quality. Lane change manoevers are no problem and the chance for vehicles occluding each other is much smaller.
Older traffic counting Radars provide resolution in one dimension: range. This is because of the side firing priciple, where any object is illuminated only for a minimum amount of time when passing a narrow beam. No resolution in speed is available then. The latest Smartmicro forward firing Radar models however will provide separation in two dimensions: range and speed - 2DHD or even 3DHD (true range, speed and angle separation) for significantly better traffic detection performance. All Radars provide a double redundant speed measurement with two or more receive antennas (=1st level of redundancy), direct Doppler measurement and range rate measurement (=2nd level of redundancy). This does not only make the speed measurement very precise but also allows built-in verfification of every single measured speed value.
Installation is possible at the road side, at the corner of an intersection, on a mast arm or a gantry on the top of the road. For multiple lanes, multiple measurement points along each lane may be configured. Those may be used as detection points, effectively representing inductive loops for measuring vehicle presence near intersections.
The statistics function provides per lane volume, occupancy, average speed, gap, headway, 85th percentile speed, classification, vehicle presence, per vehicle record and more.
The Event Trigger Module enables the user to define events for which the sensor sends out a trigger signal. Events may be presence, wrong way, ETA, speed, queue length and more.
For convenient setup and configuration the Traffic Management Configurator is available.

The new TMC (Traffic Management Configurator) Easy Mode Installation Wizard makes planning and field installation of sensors simple, as an intuitive step-by-step guide starting with site planning over sensor selection and configuration to physically installing the radar at an intersection. Just one simple window for settings, and a map for the visualization, Easy Mode helps and explains all settings. Remarkable features are "local awareness" and "guided alignment", meaning that the sensor itself provides feedback to the installer about where it is mounted and how well it is physically aligned/pointed towards the area of an intersection which shall be covered.
See TMC software page.
Cabinet cards: NEMA TS1 and TS2, SDLC compatible interface cards for traffic cabinets to connect up to 4 sensors.
3G and 4G communication modules. Ethernet communication modules.
Adjustable pole mount, mast arm mount brackets.
Alignment and installation tools, target simulators.
Cables, junction boxes, lightning protection.
