Other Traffic Applications

Beside the applications for intersections, traffic counting and enforcement, the versatile Smartmicro traffic Radar technology can be used for a number of  additional applications.

With their variable data interface options: trigger signals, traffic statistic data, object lists and raw target lists and the various physical interface options and accessories the sensors can be applied for ANPR systems, road user charging applications, weigh in motion systems or even for variable message signs.

Many more is possible. Sensors are available for stand-alone solutions where sensing and application software is all integrated and relay contacts are triggered. Alternatively options are available to integrate the sensor as OEM module into customer systems.

The modular application software design makes adaptations easy. The Smartmicro traffic radar engineering team will be on your side to support new ideas.

ANPR Systems

Smartmicro traffic radars are used to trigger multi lane ANPR systems. Not only trigger signals can be provided, but also precise speed information which is usually not available from other sensor principles. Traffic volume, class and other statistical information is part of the data delivered by the radar device at the interface.

Road User Charging Applications

For this type of applications, either open road tolling (ORT) or multi lane free flow tolling (MLFF), or for any general tolling application, Smartmicro radars will detect and track vehicles in many lanes, accurately measure speed and can be configured to trigger tolling system components - reliably, invisibly and maintenance free.

Variable Message Signs

Variable message signs (VMS) or general portable message signs are equipped with Smartmicro radar sensors and provide lane specific traffic information like speed, count, traffic density etc.

Physical Interface (Digital)

All event trigger module signals.
Count and statistic data per lane and per class: Headway, Gap, Volume, Occupancy, Avg. Speed, 85p Speed.
Object list: position(x,y), speed (x,y), class, object number for each tracked object.
Status: total time, cycle duration, number of cycles and more.
Self test results: BIT information.
Commands: sensor can be fully remote controlled by sending commands during operation.
Software upload in system: no disconnection or power cycle required.

Traffic Management Configurator (TMC) Software


The new TMC (Traffic Management Configurator) Easy Mode Installation Wizard makes planning and field installation of sensors simple, as an intuitive step-by-step guide starting with site planning over sensor selection and configuration to physically installing the radar at an intersection. Just one simple window for settings, and a map for the visualization, Easy Mode helps and explains all settings. Remarkable features are "local awareness" and "guided alignment", meaning that the sensor itself provides feedback to the installer about where it is mounted and how well it is physically aligned/pointed towards the area of an intersection which shall be covered.
