A recently implemented BikeScout application, based on Smartmicro's UMRR-0A Type30 radar, has been successfully launched in Eindhoven, helping to make the city safer than ever for cyclists.
The Dutch company Heijmans has recently initiated this pilot project at a junction, which residents previously judged as especially busy and dangerous. The system based on Smartmicro doppler radar technology detects cyclists approaching the junction from up to 50 meters reliably. It then calculates their speed and distance and gives out a warning, which triggers flashing LED warning lights embedded in the road, alerting the driver to the approaching object.
A short initial survey among cyclists has shown that the new system is well-received among residents, who will be included to rate the system after the current evaluation phase.
