UMRR-0A Automotive

This product family represents the 2nd generation of automotive Radar technology made by Smartmicro. It combines low cost and medium to high performance for the following typical applications:

Smartmicro started production of this Radar platform in 2009, it is available as standalone sensor, in master/master or master/slave configuration (typically used for dual sensor side/rear systems).

Smartmicro offers design-, development- and related engineering services and complete solutions for tier one automotive suppliers, to allow manufacturing of UMRR-0A based products on the supplier's manufacturing lines. See also Services and Solutions.

UMRR-0A based products can be designed as dual- or single board solutions, which allow an unbeatable cost/performance ratio. A fully automated end-of-line test solution is available.

UMRR-0C Automotive 3DHD

This product family represents the 3rd generation of automotive Radar technology made by Smartmicro, an all-new high-end design which introduces highest resolution (object separation) in three dimensions range, speed (Doppler) and angle (3DHD). Simultaneous detection of 256 objects in 3DHD and tracking of those is possible in real-time with 100% duty cycle. 

UMRR-0C achieves very long detection range of up to 500m and very wide field of view of up to 100 degree. Combined with the full range of communication-, storage- and other application specific features, it redefines automotive radar performance.

3DHD - High Definition in Three Dimensions: Range, Angle and Speed.

The all-new UMRR-0C redefines automotive Radar  performance in many aspects: 

  • highest resolution in 3D
  • longest range (up to 500m)
  • widest field of view (up to 100 degree)
  • simultaneous detection and tracking of 256 objects
  • adaptive beams for TX and RX 

Range is of importance for advance detection, of course. UMRR-0C pushes the limit now up to 500m.

Separation counts where many vehicles are closely spaced, i.e. in multi-lane scenarios with dense traffic, like traffic jams, stop-and-go traffic.

256 reflectors can be detected and tracked simultaneously, together with 3DHD this allows object length estimation and object classification
UMRR-0C features a technology which was not available before for 24GHz and 77GHz Radar sensors: 2DHD and 3DHD. For each reflector, there is a true measurement of range, Doppler and angle, just like it is the case for the UMRR-0A/0F sensor families.

However, UMRR-0C can now accomplish range gate specific and even angular gate specific detection of moving and even stationary vehicles. In each of these gates a separate detection is accomplished. The attached picture explains the principle.

The UMRR-0C platform features 3 models (types 39, 40 [both at 24GHz] and 128[at 77GHz]) and will be extended later. Other features of the new sensors are:
